The University, originally established as
Andhra Pradesh Open University
on 26th August 1982
through an Act of the A.P. State Legislature,
was later renamed as
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University
on 26th October 1991.
The University is the first Open University in India
and is committed to providing quality higher education
opportunities to all sections of society.
All programmes offered by the University are recognized
by the
University Grants Commission (UGC),
New Delhi.
The motto of the University is
“EDUCATION FOR ALL”.
